A Lil Cuppa Joe's...It's called Cuppa Joe's.
It's a place at a FOB (forward operating base) just north of Camp Liberty, where the troops can relax, socialize, play games, and get a good cup of coffee. They can also chat with the Army Chaplain there about any problems or stress they may be having.
It started out as the Chaplain's building. For some reason, it has become something more. Family and friends back home send coffee for our boys and girls to drink, and more and more, people are donating chess set, cards, some entertainment equipment, DVDs, video game systems and various other things that might help our troops relieve stress.
My Art Director, Roland Rosenkranz, and I got a request to do a coffee sign for Cuppa Joe's and we jumped at the chance to do it. We got the full blessings of our Producers to work on this at work. Universal Sign Shop at Universal Studios generously printed, mounted, and laminated the sign for free. Our cast on CSI: Miami and our Executive Producer, Ann Donahue, gleefully grabbed a pen as quick as they could to sign the Cuppa Joe's sign. Eva La Rue (Natalia Boa Vista) sent an XBox 360 with a bunch of games with the sign.
This is something that I was proud to design and illustrate for our troops. I'm also glad that I got to do something that showed our love and support for them.
Our contact, Paul Gendreau, got back to us and let us know how much the troops enjoy it already and we're waiting on a photo with the troops to be sent back to the states. Paul, who's nephew is at the FOB, also coordinates a lot of the donations that go to the troops and I appreciate all the hard work that he does.
